What is ISMP Japan?
International Student Mentorship Program Japan (ISMP) is a non-profit organization made up of working professionals who graduated from top schools in the U.S. and have experience working at large, international firms.
We provide mentorship for Japanese college students interested in studying or experiencing American culture. Studies show that America and Japan are often on opposite sides of the cultural spectrum. We aim to bridge that gap because we believe that meaningful cross-cultural connections can transform lives. That’s why ISMP Japan also provides cultural exchange events, homestay programs, and more.
ISMP mentorship is based on Christian values and virtues. However, the content is largely non-religious and open to all students, regardless of their religious or cultural backgrounds.

The ISMP Ambassadors Program is a premier leadership opportunity for current university students in Japan who are passionate about building multicultural connections and making a real impact on campus.
As an Ambassador, you aren't just a volunteer—you’re the face of a global non-profit. You will work directly with the International Student Mentorship Program (ISMP) to foster a vibrant, supportive environment for students at your university. Whether you’re leading English Cafes, spearheading digital marketing strategies, or coordinating campus-wide events, you’ll be gaining high-level professional experience that goes far beyond the classroom.

We offer two cohorts per year to fit your academic schedule. To make sure you’re ready from day one, you’ll have leadership training the month before your 3-month term starts.

The ISMP Campus Ambassador serves as the vital bridge between the International Student Mentorship Program and their specific university community in Japan. As an Ambassador, you will be the face of ISMP on campus, fostering a supportive environment for international and local students through program feedback, event coordination, and peer leadership. This role is ideal for students looking to develop professional communication, event planning, and leadership skills within a multicultural context.

Campus Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for all ISMP-related inquiries at your university.
Strategic Promotion: Lead efforts to promote ISMP programs and resources across campus to increase student engagement.
Event Coordination: Serve as the on-the-ground liaison for mentorship workshops and official ISMP events hosted at your university.
Local Strategy: Provide guidance to the ISMP leadership team on "best practices" and specific offerings that would most benefit your unique university demographic.
Peer Mentorship: Actively teach and guide underclassmen regarding ISMP programs, helping them navigate available resources.
Collaborative Planning: Attend and contribute to a monthly planning meeting (~2 hours) with ISMP members to strategize upcoming campus offerings.Requirements & Qualifications
Current Enrollment: Must be a registered University Student in Japan for the entire duration of the service period.
Time Commitment: Ability to commit to a full 3-month term:

The Advanced English Cafe Leader serves as a dedicated, proactive, and culturally-minded program leader at their local university in Japan.
In this role, you will act as the bridge between ISMP's Advanced English Cafe program and your local university campus in Japan. You will lead efforts to foster a vibrant English Cafe program where the university community can foster a place of learning and friendships, providing strategic guidance to ensure the English Cafe program meets the needs of your fellow students.Details

The Social Media and Marketing Leader serves as a creative and strategic Social Media and Marketing consultant to spearhead our digital presence across universities in Japan.
In this role, you will act as the voice for ISMP at your local campus through your marketing skills to bridge the gap between university students and ISMP. You will be responsible for crafting engaging content, advising team members on social media and marketing strategy, and ensuring our mission of mentorship the students at your university.Details

If you are traveling to America, the ISMP Connect Cultural Exchange Homestay Program can connect you an ISMP mentor who will be your host family in America. They will host you in their home for up to two weeks for FREE, show you the best spots in their city, and teach you American culture!
What is ISMP Connect?

ISMP Connect is a two-week cultural immersion program that places Japanese university students with American host families — no study visa required. You'll stay in a real home, explore your host's city, try things you'd never find in a guidebook, and build a genuine friendship across cultures.
This isn't a tour package. It's an open door into everyday American life.
